Lee Roy Selmon's story combines the benefits of football scholarship with volunteerism in the community. First of all the Selmons were brought up with Lucious as well as Jessie Selmon, on the farm close to Eufala located in Oklahoma as the eldest of their nine children. He played second in football and was the third brother who were players for Oklahoma. All three of them were All-Americans. The year 1973 was the first time Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the players for one season. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award and the Lombardi award as the best lineman in the country. Over the course of three seasons, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy as the starter. Also, they won the national title twice. The third scholarship was awarded to him. He was as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon earned his diploma in education. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer time per week throughout the college. After college, he moved to Tampa and played for nine years for Tampa's Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro three times. Then he started his career. In 1988, as an account representative at First Florida Bank of Tampa He was a member of the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as being among 10 of America's most outstanding young men. When he was a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighs a little over 256 lbs. He coached his university team in 1975. In 1993, Roy was a part of the University of South Florida's sports department as its Director of Athletics as an associate. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame through the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame of 1994 as well as by the Pro Football Hall of Fame of 1995. In 1989 the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded their Distinguished American Award, to Mr. Lucious Selmon and his wife. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor that presented the award.
