
Julie London (nee Peck; September 26 1926 - October 18 in 2000) was an American actor and singer with a career that spanned over 40 years. A torch singer noted for her sultry, languid contralto vocals, London recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 between 1955 and 1969. Inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001, she recorded "Cry me a river" which she had included on her debut album. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her role as Dixie McCall, a nurse on the television show Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year-long acting career began in 1944 , with roles in films. They included roles as the lead female in several westerns. London also starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) as well as Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). The singer signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This marked the start of her professional career in music. In 1969, she released her last studio album. But, she continued to be part of the emergency series in the role of Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979), she was with her husband Bobby Troup. The show was produced by her former husband Jack Webb.
